Self harm is a big issue in our world. Many teenagers and adults suffer from it, whether it be cutting or burning or something else. It’s not a good thing to do. My therapist once told me that it is a coping method, but it’s not a healthy one. Sometimes when you self harm, you end up doing it to the point where you either die or are sent to a hospital. If you are a self-harmer, ask yourself the question of why you’re doing it. Maybe it’s because you are being bullied or maybe it’s because you want attention. Either way, you do need to talk about it.

Ways to help with self harming is to distract your hands. Busy yourself with coloring, or throwing a ball around. Maybe go punch a punching bag or pillow. You can also wear a rubber band around your wrist and snap it every time you think about self harming. This helps for some people. Another thing that may help is called The Butterfly Project. This is where you draw a butterfly on your wrist and you can’t self harm until it wears off. You can name them after people or have someone draw them on you. Those are the special ones. If you self harm, the butterflies die. One last thing you can do that I suggest is to just simply talk to someone. These may help you or they may not. You have to try out different coping skills until you find one that helps you.

If you are a self-harmer, I dare you not to self harm tonight. Stay strong and distance yourself from this addiction.
